Warsaw / Moscow: Alterations in Progress. The Vicissitudes of Monuments in the Post-Socialist Public Sphere

Dr. Krzysztof Pijarski (The Leon Schiller National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź). PROJECT: Warsaw / Moscow: Alterations in Progress. The Vicissitudes of Monuments in the Post-Socialist Public Sphere.

The project „Warsaw / Moscow: Alterations in Progress. The Vicissitudes of Monuments in the Post-socialist Public Sphere” aims at studying such structures and places in the public sphere of Warsaw and Moscow (as well as the gestures made towards them), which: allegorize social and political conflicts (becoming catalyzers of all kinds of hopes, fears, divisions or exclusion), which have the ability to condensate the time (different time perspectives overlap within them), and, first of all, which materialize those conflicts, hopes and fears in visual form. Within the study focusing on selected sites and gestures a kind of an “idea map” is supposed to be created, which will reflect the major conflicts connected with the period of transformation (first of all, with the issues of memory and history as well as social, economic and political changes being the results of the change of the political system).
