Multiple Worlds – One Common Area. The Memory of Local Communities of the Kizhinginsky District

Dr. Albert Jawłowski (Institute of Applied Social Sciences). PROJECT: Multiple Worlds – One Common Area. The Memory of Local Communities of the Kizhinginsky District.

Within the project participative research will be carried out on a selected area of the city center of Ulan-Ude (the capital of the Republic of Buryatia, which is a federal subject of Russia). A socio-cultural analysis of the area of interest will be carried out. Apart from that a preliminary diagnosis of its inhabitants’ everyday life will be performed as well as of their lifestyle and the needs of the local community. The project has been designed as a preliminary stage to broader comparative research in Poland and Russia, the realization of which is planned for the year 2015.

In practice the realization of this project can be used as a diagnosis which can prove helpful in the attempts of social and spatial revitalization of the historical part of Ulan-Ude, which the city authorities have been trying to make in the recent years.
