The Western discourse often looks at the experience of Eastern European countries in the light of “catching up” countries, presupposing that they will follow the same way as the Western countries did. However, many factors demonstrate, that Eastern countries often have their own trajectory of development, which cannot be limited just to the “catching up” status, but on the contrary, should account for the peculiar circumstances and patterns of these countries. And especially this concerns the intellectuals, as creators of new ideas and motive powers for the society. Do they possess an innovative potential, or they would just prove the existing assumption about the “catching up” role of these countries?

The main feature of the informational society is that new informational technologies allow quick access to knowledge to a broad range of users.

The informational society is characterized, first of all, by a new infrastructure that underlies the production and delivery of information to the users, in other words, the new media, which fasten the whole process to the unprecedented extent. That, in its turn, increases the volume of information produced and consumed per person, simultaneously making information the main product of the economic activity.

Creation of computers, Internet, digitalization of media, mobile technologies cast a new light on the level of personal qualification: now any specialist should possess a skillful operation of these new technologies. And especially this is true for the people who represent the new intellectual elite. In other words, now intellectuals should possess at least two specializations: they are supposed to be good specialists in their spheres and besides that they should be able to apply their knowledge effectively in the information society, which implies their skills in new technologies operation.

This combination of skills necessary for contemporary intellectual poses an intriguing question of interrelation between the technologies and other spheres of life, which becomes more and more linked to each other, or even merge into each other. For example, the creation of digital dictionaries, which demands the close cooperation of philologists and programmers, or, the digital statistical data bases and the programs that operate them, demanding the cooperation of sociologists and programmers.

Such examples are numerous in every sphere of life, and this undergoing change makes us rethink the main principles and traditions of our education (Does our education create such specialists?). First of all, it is the principle of interdisciplinarity and the connection between the technological education and the humanities, for example.

That is why in this research we pay large attention to these principles and to the capacity of new intellectuals to operate in the information society in terms of the technologies knowledge and skills they possess.

This thread is to discuss the features that should be added on the site and developed in the future.

Flexibility:
more input and output formats support. The most wanted would be: Paraconc, CWB, Parasol, Intercorp.

Functionality:
1) implementation of a sentence-splitting module, hopefully language specific, with the possiblity for modification by the user depending on the genre of the text. (This could also be developed as an independent module to be used with UGTag and other programs.)
2) including more functionality of Hunalign, with a description of the features and explanation of consequences of their use (most likely will demand contact with HunAlign developers, as it does not seem to be well-documented).
(opt) 3) enabling the user to modify Hunalign's heuristics

Robustness:
1) The program crashes if it meets problems. The error reports are illegible.
2) Hunalign sometimes cuts off the end of the text. Pluczek should try to restore the lost pieces. Some testing and visual reports could be helpful.
3) visualization of the pre- and post-alignment could be helpful to evaluate the functionality of Hunalign and adjust configuration accordingly.

Major:
cross-platformness
more language interfaces

Jeżeli zajdzie potrzeba stworzenia nowej grupy badawczej, to można to zgłosić w poddziale "propozycje tworzenia grup badawczych" obecnego działu "Powitanie" kategorii "Ogólne".

Jeżeli zajdzie potrzeba stworzenia nowej grupy badawczej, to można to zgłosić w poddziale "propozycje tworzenia grup badawczych" obecnego działu "Powitanie" kategorii "Ogólne".

Pozdrawiam,
